Santa Justa - arriving at the main train station for Seville

Santa Justa main train station Sevilla
Arriving at the main train station for Seville - Santa Justa Station

First stop, Sevilla - Santa Justa Station! To the northeast just outside the old town center in the Santa Justa district, is Seville's train station. It was newly built and completed in 1991 as the terminus for Spain's first high-speed rail, just the year before Expo '92 in Seville.

Prior to that, trains from the north terminated at a station in Plaza de Armas (which was often known as the Cordoba station), and trains from the south terminated at San Bernardo (which was often known as the Cadiz station). As things go with modernization, the old Cordoba station at Plaza de Armas was eventually recycled into becoming a trendy shopping and entertainment complex; while a new underground station at San Bernardo now serves both as a stop on Seville's metro line, as well as a station for the RENFE suburban and southern inter-city network (Cadiz trains now travel north through San Bernardo one stop further to Santa Justa).

The regional bus stations are still split as the train stations used to be: northerly routes from the larger and more modern Plaza de Armas bus station; southerly and easterly routes from  the old bus station at Prado de San Sebastian, just one metro stop west of San Bernardo.

(N.B. To see where all these places are, have a look at an earlier post: "Seville orientation: layout of the city".)
